Jack was employed into service for the East India Trading Company and was given command of the Wicked Wench. However, after he set free a cargo of slaves, his employer, Cutler Beckett, had Jack branded as a pirate and the Wench set aflame and sunk. After failing to rescue the Wench, Sparrow struck a bargain with the ghostly captain of the Flying Dutchman, Davy Jones, to resurrect his beloved vessel. Jones returned the ship to Jack in near perfect condition except for the permanently charred hull. This prompted Jack to rename her the Black Pearl.

Jack Sparrow just got way cooler.
BABE
Yo, this is why Norrington said he's the "worst pirate I've ever heard of," and then Jack followed it up with, "But you have heard of me."
Because Jack was branded a Pirate because he freed people rather than stealing anything. So Norrington, with his sense of duty, knows that Jack has been branded a criminal for actively not being a terrible human being. Norrington is torn between his duty as a naval officer and knowing that Jack is right.
He freed exactly 100 people, that's why his debt to Jones was 100 souls. Davy has a sick sense of irony after all. Jack freed 100 souls and as a consequence his ship got sunk. Now his ship has been raised and as a consequence, he has to enslave 100 souls. This explains his reluctance to actually pay back the debt.
Crap, the latter portion of this franchise was a lot smarter than I thought it was…
I clearly need to rewatch these movies as an adult and pay attention
color me impressed Disney did some fucking research on the subject
well… shitfuck, now I'VE gotta rewatch those…
This would be awesome if it was true. Disney loves sneaking stuff into its films.

So, there's this little thing called Knightrokon coming up next weekend, June 1st-2nd in UCF's student union. It's an anime convention run by Anime Spot, the school's anime club.
Admission is free for UCF students and a modest $15 for a 2-day pass or $10 for just Saturday or Sunday.
Our voice actor guests include Crispin Freeman, DC Douglas and David Vincent, but we have far more guests, including bands, artists and local clubs.
There will be many events, such as a Pokemon Mystery and Whose Line is it Anime, going on all day. There will be live music, video games, tabletop gaming, panels, an anime viewing room and other forms of entertainment all day for both days.
Knightrokon is happening this Saturday, June 1 at UCF. From tiny acorns do mighty oaks grow.

Peter has a saying: "when you see a sign telling people not to do something, the more unlikely the prohibition sounds, the more often people will be doing it." (The first time he came out with ths codification — which really ought to be called Morwood's Law — was when we were in Stratford-upon-Avon to do some grocery shopping and we found ourselves looking at a bridge over the river that had a sign on it that said PLEASE DO NOT JUMP OFF THE BRIDGE. Apparently inebriated people often thought it was a good idea to jump off onto the roofs of passing canal boats. With predictable results.)
Here's your sign.

neeble: kittea-cat: zoearcher: What I always enjoyed about...

What I always enjoyed about Morticia and Gomez was how they made no secret that they passionately loved each other. We get so used to seeing depictions (on television especially) of married couples in continual states of contention—belittling one another, falling into the wife/mother-husband/child trope, and generally disrespecting each other, which made me wonder why they even bothered marrying in the first place.
But Gomez and Morticia never lose their desire and respect for each other. Is it because they're "weird" that it's acceptable to depict married life so positively? Or are they "strange" because, after three children and a lifetime together, they still adore each other? I know no marriage is perfect, but wouldn't it be nice if the media portrayed marriage as more than a continuous state of exasperation and anger? Maybe that's why romance novelists and romance novel readers are so embattled: because we dare to believe in love.
"How long has it been since we waltzed?"
"Hours."
Never miss a chance to reblog Gomez and Morticia.
I gotta agree with this statement.

sarah531: Doctor Who characters as associated with the twelve...

Doctor Who characters as associated with the twelve common character archetypes, discovered via this post
Seems legit.
Post Name of the Doctor fic:
Title: They Say Home Is Where Your Heart is Set in Stone
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Jenny/Vastra, Clara/Eleven
Warnings: spoilers for The Name of the Doctor, mentions of character death, some non-explicit smut.Summary: A short-ish Vastra-centric epilogue for the finale, as the Patternoster gang help Clara recover from events at Trenzalore.
(Note: the title of this song is taken from the chorus of the Gabrielle Aplin song Home, which I listened to on repeat all through writing this - it is SO Clara, Vastra, Jenny and River's song, I highly recommend a listen whilst you read).
They Say Home is Where Your Heart is Set in Stone
When all is said and done, there is very little that cannot be repaired with good, strong tea – even though Jenny's hands shake when she serves it, and Vastra has to reach and steady her wrist to stop her burning herself.
They're all a bit shaky, really – the Doctor is shivering uncontrollably in the drawing room, sat so close to the fire that there's sweat running down his brow, and Clara is in his lap, stroking his hair with fingers that twitch and tremble.
Jenny and Vastra have left them alone; out of a general respect for their privacy, and a desire for their own. They have retreated to the kitchen, to Jenny's tea things and lemon fancies and Vastra's fresh pig's liver and the good china and all the solidly domestic comforts of home. Vastra sits on the little wooden chair Jenny normally occupies in the mornings when she's eating breakfast and reading papers, and Jenny sets the tea things on the table, and they both tremble, quietly.
An interesting epilogue to a good season finale. This was a nice story that tries to solve the mystery of Clara Oswald. The pacing was OK, and the voices of the Paternoster Row gang were spot on. I hope that the Doctor paid for all of the food Clara ate during her Time Energy Purge.
